I’m Fine Starter Pack
Vids for Wids
Non-profit for widow support
Vids for Wids is a non-profit for widow/ers to feel supported. Connection and relatability is their focus, which is done mainly via first hand story telling and dark humor (as this is a major way that grievers get through the tough stuff).
I A
I pitched a series about widows going to work; if they were able to take any time off, did they want to go back to work, how they now viewed their careers, and how they coped being back into the swing of things. We did a series of interviews which I edited into a series. However the dark humor heart was missing. I decided to pitch a concept on ‘what not to wear to work’. The idea was picked up and I moved into fleshing out initial concepts.
Intial concepts
For these initial concepts, I intentionally tried to not box the idea in. I thought big. But in reality, there was limited time and resources to use. The ‘I’m fine starter pack’ was chosen as it would read the best to the audience, and was do-able to film in less than an hour.
Once filming was complete, I was handed the raw footage. In Premiere Pro, I added the relevant LUT and played with scale, pacing, and cuts. The pacing needed to be fairly quick to keep the audience engaged. One of the more time-consuming parts was balancing the pace of the edit with the speed of the voiceover. I needed to keep things moving without making the voice too fast or hard to understand.
I used an AI voiceover to give the reel a slightly cheesy, advertisement-style feel. A last minute addition was the recap at the end of the video. This wasn’t scripted or planned, but it helped clearly round out the purpose of the reel.
The final step was creating a cover that captured the overall feel of the video. This cover acts as the visual representation of the clip on the account. I chose a close-up still from the footage and, using Photoshop, added bold text to complete it.
